St Nersess Armenian Seminary Offers Training Program For Deacons
A special Deacon’s Training Program will be held at St Nersess Armenian Seminary from June 26 to July 5, 1998 at the Seminary in New Rochelle, NY. Participants will lean the practical skills necessary to serve at the altar during the Divine Liturgy (Badarak) and other church services. they will also learn the meaning and relevance of the worship services of the Armenian Church and the deacon’s role in them. No prior experience is necessary. Beginners will learn the chantes of the Divine Liturgy, censing (using the poorvar), and vesting the priest, while more experienced altar services will lean the Morning Service and how to chant the gospel. The program includes daily worship, Bible and Liturgical Study, Armenian language instruction, and special sessions on Armenian sacred art and music. A visit to St Vartan Armenian Cathedral New York and other excursions have been planned.
The cost of the ten-day program is $350, which includes tuition, accomodations in the recently-renovated and fully air-conditioned Seminary building, home-cooked meals, and all materials. Those interest in attending should check with their parish priest or parish council for the availability of scholarships.
