Seminarians Welcome Dr. Herand Markarian

Seminarians welcomed a new professor, Dr. Herand Markarian, to St. Nersess at the start of the 2013 Spring semester. “Professor Markarian will offer the seminarians an understanding of how to inject the Armenian spirit and experience into their sermons, both in Armenian on any number of themes and in English on Armenian-themed topics, like Sts. Vartanantz Day, Armenian Martyrs Day and the Holy Translators Day,” announced Fr. Mardiros Chevian, Dean of St. Nersess Armenian Seminary. “His professional and cultural background as well as his national spirit and activism will certainly offer to the students an important component to what it means to be an Armenian priest,” concluded Fr. Mardiros.
Professor Markarian will co-teach the Homiletics course at St. Nersess. He earned a Ph.D. in chemistry, taught college briefly, and is well known for his contributions to the performing arts. His career as an actor, producer, director, and playwright dates back 50 years. He has directed more than 40 plays and authored 26 theatrical productions.
