Seminarian Learns Iconography over Thanksgiving Break

Over the Thanksgiving holiday break, seminarian Karo Boyadzhyan traveled to St. John Armenian Church to meet with the Rev. Fr. Garabed Kochakian, a seminary graduate and former pastor of St. John, to study Armenian Christian Art history and painting of Icons in the Armenian tradition. Fr. Garabed is an iconographer and expert on Armenian sacred art.

Along with learning how to prepare a panel for an icon, Karo learned new painting techniques as art is his hobby. During the trip, he was also fortunate to meet with the Very. Rev. Fr. Aren Jebejian, also a St. Nersess alumnus and current pastor, who introduced him to the St. John parish community. Hayr Aren invited Karo to participate in the Motor City Mitten Mission, a mission in which faithful members of the Church donate 100 meals to impoverished communities in the Detroit area. Karo also participated in the Divine Liturgy as an altar server alongside Hayr Aren as the celebrant.
