New Special Lecture for Fall Semester

St. Nersess Armenian Seminary will host a special lecture by Prof. Chris Guzelian, an Economist and Law Professor, by Zoom and in person.

Friday, September 20

4 – 6pm

Lecture: “What is ‘The Love of Money’?”

A conversation with clergy, seminarians and the interested public

about the laws, economics, and ethics of money.

Description: The love of money, said by St. Paul to be “at the root of all evil,” has historically been understood as a severe individual sin of greed (think of Judas Iscariot’s betrayal of Christ for 30 pieces of silver). However, what is poorly understood, even among mainstream economists, is that the modern global money system in which nearly everyone participates, is a collective evil since 1861. Modern money causes mass poverty and environmental damage. These days, the “love of money” better describes modern money’s universally corrupting, collective forces than any particular individual’s character flaws. Immoral modern money systems should and can be remedied.

A light reception will follow the lecture and Q & A. If attending in person, please email us, or register by Zoom to view online.
