New Curriculum For St. Nersess Summer Conferences

St. Nersess Armenian Seminary is pleased to announce a new four-year curriculum for its Summer Conferences that will better prepare young Armenian students to become leaders in the Armenian Church, including future Sunday School teachers.
 
Participants will study all aspects of the teachings and traditions of the Armenian Church, including: Survey of the Old Testament, the Gospels, the Book of Acts and the Epistles; Early Church History; Armenian Church Year; Church Fathers; Sacraments; Armenian Religious Art; Contemporary Issues; Faith and Spiritual Development; Golden and Silver Age of Armenian Church History; Church Music; Life of Christ; Armenian Religious Art and Architecture; Classical and Modern Armenian Language; The Creed; Prayer; Comparative Christianity; and Saints & Martyrs. The new curriculum will give students a basic Armenian Christian literacy which will help them teach, lead, and inspire others. At the conclusion of the four-year curriculum, students will receive a certificate of completion from St. Nersess Seminary.
 
Fr. Mardiros Chevian, seminary dean, recently discussed the new program with Elise Antreassian and Eric Vozzy at the Department of Christian Education, Diocese of the Armenian Church of America (Eastern). “We looked at the curriculum that our seminarians experience and then developed a ‘seminary education in miniature’ for the future young leaders of our Armenian Church,” commented Fr. Mardiros. “The program is geared for young lay people moving into leadership positions,” he added. After learning more about the new curriculum, Elise Antreassian remarked, “the program will help current Sunday School students and graduates become better-equipped church leaders.”
 
This year, High School Summer Conference A will be held July 15 – 24 and will be directed by the Rev. Fr. Ghevond Ajamian; High School Summer Conference B will be held July 29 – August 7 and will be directed by the Rev. Fr. Shnork Souin; the Post High School Summer Conference will be held August 9 – 13 and will be directed by the Rev. Fr. Samuel Rith-Najarian. There will also be a Deacons’ Training Program which will be held June 25 – July 3, and will be directed by the V. Rev. Fr. Daniel Findikyan. All four conferences will be held on the new St. Nersess campus in Armonk, New York.
 
Since its inception in 1963, the summer conferences have offered thousands of young people a deeper understanding of their faith as well as sports and outings.
