Course in Essentials of Church Management

Recently, the seminarians concluded their “Essentials of Church Management” intensive course with student presentations on important topics. Fr. Mardiros Chevian, dean, who taught the Friday morning class, highlighted the topics of the four-week course, including: Mission-Driven Church Management, Networking and Creating Relationships, Leading Councils and Teams, Spirituality of Administration, Finances and Fundraising, Leadership Development, and Loving while Leading your Flock. Lay leaders in attendance for the student presentations were Dn. Levon Altiparmakian, Dottie Bengoian, and Donna Sirounian.

Arin Parsanian spoke about Team Leadership and how clergy need to be “change masters” – help to create the vision, involve a team of parishioners, and invest the time. Next Zareh Mirzayan spoke on Heart-centeredness, and the importance of thinking through our hearts. “As a leader, we must listen intently and be fully present for others… Mindfulness.”

Finally, Karo Boyadzhyan presented on Engagement, and how to approach people. He highlighted types of lay engagement and interaction. “Stewardship is a conscious choice and life changing.” The seminarians agreed that this mini course was very impactful and meaningful for their future work as a priest.
