AI & Faith Seminar

AI & Faith Seminar

During the morning of October 17, St. Nersess Armenian Seminary hosted a special hybrid seminar on “AI & Faith” for clergy of the Eastern and Western Dioceses, as well as students, faculty, and staff. George Stepaniants, PhD, a NSF Mathematical Sciences Postdoctoral Fellow at California Institute of Technology and a deacon of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America, engaged the audience with three key themes:

What AI is and where it is effective

What AI is not and where it is ineffective

How AI can enrich – or erode – our faith and wisdom

Dr. Stepaniants traced the history of artificial intelligence from early computing to today’s technologies, noting that AI can only perform within its training and may be inaccurate. While cautioning against its misuse, especially in addressing spiritual needs, he also encouraged its responsible and thoughtful use within parish life.

Fr. Mardiros Chevian moderated the session and invited the speaker to join the seminarians and staff for lunch in the Arsen Keleshian Dining Hall following the seminar.
